Fluentertained Privacy Policy

1. Scope

This policy applies to fluentertained.com, the Fluentertained web app, and the Fluentertained browser extension for YouTube. It covers information processed when you create an account, sign in, manage decks and words, use AI-powered learning features, and use the extension’s filtering, caption, lookup, and save-word tools.

2. Information We Collect

Account and profile information

• Email address and authentication-related identity information provided through Amazon Cognito.
• Main language, account tier, theme preference, and other saved profile settings.
• AI usage totals and limits, including token usage counts and recent usage timestamps.

Learning content you create

• Deck names, deck language, and deck color selections.
• Words, definitions, example sentences, stress markers, common pairings, pronunciation links, and review history.
• Word study metadata such as strength score, last review index, and creation or update timestamps.
• Optional voice-note uploads if you choose to attach audio to a word.

Browser and device storage

• The website uses browser storage, including localStorage, to keep you signed in and to remember preferences such as theme, study mode, quiz mode, selected deck, and other session-state choices.
• The extension uses chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync to store sign-in state, selected languages, filtering settings, caption settings, saved-word cache data, and related user preferences.

Extension page-content and YouTube data

• The extension reads YouTube page content needed to provide its features, such as visible video titles, channel names, captions, clicked words, and watch-page subtitle text.
• Language filtering and most on-page matching happen locally in your browser.
• If you use AI-assisted extension features such as AI Define, the specific word or text you clicked, along with relevant language settings, is sent to Fluentertained’s backend and OpenAI solely to generate the response you requested.

Operational and security data

• API, authentication, and hosting logs may record metadata such as IP address, request timestamps, user agent, and error information.
• We may retain limited diagnostic information needed to secure the service, investigate abuse, and keep the product working.

3. How We Use Information

• To create and manage your account and keep you signed in.
• To store and sync your decks, words, preferences, and study progress.
• To score reviews, update strength and recency values, and power study flows such as flashcards, quizzes, and list view.
• To generate AI-assisted outputs such as definitions, example sentences, common pairings, caption lookups, and quiz grading.
• To enforce plan limits, including daily AI token limits for free and premium accounts.
• To operate, secure, monitor, improve, and troubleshoot the website, API, and extension.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the limited ways described below.

Service providers and infrastructure

• Amazon Web Services for hosting, authentication, API delivery, storage, and database services.
• OpenAI for user-requested AI features such as generated definitions, example sentences, pairings, and quiz evaluations.

Browser-extension limited-use disclosure

The extension accesses website content and browsing-context data only as needed to provide the user-facing language-learning features you enable. We do not use that data for advertising, data brokerage, creditworthiness, or unrelated profiling. When extension page content is transmitted off-device, it is transmitted only to deliver the feature you directly requested, such as an AI lookup or authenticated save-word action.

Legal and business transfers

• We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
• We may transfer information in connection with a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or similar business transaction.

5. Storage, Security, and Retention

Security

• We use HTTPS and platform security controls for data transmitted between your browser, the extension, and our services.
• Access to stored data is limited to the systems and service providers needed to operate Fluentertained.
• No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the service.

Retention

• Account, deck, and word data are retained until you delete them or request deletion.
• Voice-note files are retained until the associated word, deck, or recording is removed.
• Browser and extension storage remain on your device until you clear them, sign out, or uninstall the extension.
• Operational logs and token-usage records may be retained for reasonable security, billing, abuse-prevention, and service-maintenance periods.

6. Your Choices

• You can edit or delete decks and words from inside the app.
• You can sign out of the website or extension at any time.
• You can disable or uninstall the browser extension if you no longer want it to access YouTube pages.
• You can clear local browser storage and extension storage using your browser’s settings.
• You can contact us to request deletion of your account data that is stored on our servers.

7. Children’s Privacy

Fluentertained is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. International Processing

Depending on where you use Fluentertained, information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date on this page.
